Phone softkey services
Phone softkey services put recording controls on the desk phone itself: through an on-phone menu, a user can trigger on-demand recording (keep or discard the call) and pause/resume recording without opening the web portal. The services are served by the web portal to supported IP phone models — including Cisco, Polycom, Yealink, Aastra, and Panasonic devices.
Note
This feature targets deployments with traditional desk-phone platforms and is rarely used on modern cloud telephony integrations, where recording controls live in the web portal instead.
Where: Administration › System › Phone Softkey Services — a per-tenant status table with View sessions, View, and Edit configuration actions per row. A separate Phone Softkey Services Sessions page lists active phone sessions.
Configuration
Per tenant, Edit the configuration:
- Phone softkey services — Enable the feature for the tenant.
- Max sessions per user — 1–10; increase it if users have multiple phone devices (default 1).
- Max session lifetime (days) — when set, users must sign in from their phones again after the session expires; empty means no expiry.
- Phones network — an IP network filter (
x.x.x.x/m); the services answer only to phones from this network. The default0.0.0.0/0allows any address. - Authentication — how users sign in from the phone:
- Authenticate users using a PIN
- Authenticate users using a web access password
- Authenticate users using Metaswitch CommPortal
Sessions
View sessions shows the signed-in phone sessions for a tenant, so you can verify that phones reach the service and are authenticated as the expected users.
